Gaming Boards

Hi!

in the past weeks I tried to put together some terrain elements and some different gaming boards, mostly focusing on 15mm stuff.
My main goal was to create some nice looking enviroments using only leftover materials.
This is the board I made out of some foamcore and polystyrene, adding wall plaster, sand and few rocks:

The board is made from A3 foamcore sheets. I finished 2 out of 4 planned; in the next pics you can see the new ones together with the finalized/painted ones

And here you can see the final effect with some 15mm minis, all from Ground Zero Games:

Hills can host some important game objectives...

Even if at the moment I only have 2xA3 they still have proven themselves enough for few nice 15mm games :)

At the moment I'm thinking about creating other boards with different materials... stay tuned!

Cheers

Five Parsecs from being back!

Hi all!

It's been a long time since I last wrote something on NNL, and I'm so sorry about that. I unfortunately (or luckily) have had lots of things to do... i.e. I now live with my patient girlfriend!

Still, I have TONS of newly painted minis and in these months I tried some very cool rules: I played with my mates terrific Ganesha Games battles (love these rules!), and I found my new paragon in wargaming rulesets: the Fivecore System from Nordic Weasel Games!

Really, this is something I did not expect: with this ruleset and its expansion Five Parsecs From Home I felt something I was missing in miniature gaming since a long time: the feeling of an adventure, story-driven game!

I never played but was a great fan of GW's original Rogue Trader because it was so full of imagination and was all about adventures and quests instead of  revolving "only" around battles... each game had a story, players and NPCs had interesting interactions and backgrounds... and this is exactly what I love of Five Parsecs: Ivan Sorensen brought back this feeling forgotten for a long time in my games!

By now I tryed the game only once with my friend Yuri (he's the one who told me about this great system!) but it was enough to confirm my first impression. I hope to be able to post soon a batrep.

BTW: I will try in the next weeks to post pictures of all the new minis I've done in these last months and be aware... I also discovered the world of 15mm fantasy, so expect to see something soon! :D

Since my last post was about ARC Fleet light recon color schemes (still my favourite sci-fi soldiers out there) I leave you with a couple of pictures of the painting I decided for some of them:

- my SWAT teams will now have a new "blue" look as I did not like anymore my former paintjob, below you see the comparison between new (left) and old (right):

- some special operations squads will now have a new camo I quite like:

All in all, I greet you with a peek to my small 15mm playground so you know I was not jocking when I said I worked on some gaming stuff in the last months ^_^'... I will post more about all my new terrain stuff in the next weeks!

Take care!
cheers

Ruined Water Purification Implant

Dear all,

This week end I had some time and I finished my "ruined water purification implant" to be implemented in my ruined city project for 15mm minis!
This would be part of the terrain used for my incoming 5150: Star Army games as I buyed this game today from THW! Talking about the game, will hopefully soon review it.

Here are some some pics:
Di seguito alcune immagini:

Another wasted section  of the water implant
Un'altra sezione in rovina dell'impianto

This is the full Water Implant. At the moment it is supposed to be a Sahadeen Rebels stronghold!

New terrain and Bugs

Hi all,

First of all, I'd love to say a big thanks to Mark from Dropship Horizon: he as been of great inspiration for all 15mm Sci-fi fans!
And now the minis.
Taking advantage from long week-end I painted some new stuff, and played a test FUBAR game! The FUBAR BatRep will come very soon, first I'd like to share the things I painted!
A ruined implant (its purpose is still a mistery for me too... I think they were making... yogurt or business cards from my former jobs ;))

two objective markers (techno-stuff)
Due segnalini di obiettivo (roba tecnologica)

Big Bugs!! I'm quite proud of their look.. they do not have the same color scheme of my small bugs, but... ehy, why should they look like having the same uniform?
Bestiacce!

Big Bugs are Big...

Simple urban ruins

Hello and happy new year!

This very short post to share some simple ruined buildings I’m putting together from old business cards. My intention is to add more and larger buildings and a couple of industrial settlements and to run a “WW2 with some sci fi” scenario using NUTS!

At the moment I populated them with my ARC Fleet Light Recons and Sahadeens to take some pictures!

Buon anno!

I will need to put a couple of roads...

with some minis...

closeups..

Hope to be able to post more soon,
Cheers,

Andrea

Free small paper houses!

Dear all,

I've been busy with what pays for our gaming habits (work) but finally I can post my first small contribute to all the 15mm gamers out there :).
Here are 4 small paper buildings; they're quite homemade and nothing impressive, still they're free from me and can help you to add some last minute terrain pcs to your table!

Hope to be able to post more (and better) soon!

Btw: you are free to use them but for commercial purposes; the papers are a resource from the Two Hour Wargames yahoo group.

A paper place called Home

Hi!

A couple of evenings ago I was playing with my laptop (and incredibly it was not Fallout 3...) and I had the idea of putting together some paper terrain for my 15mm miniatures.
So I created and printed them out: I have been enough lucky to match the scale at first attempt, still my job is nothing incredible but quite nice.

I put together a very small “cottage” style room and a dirty apartment; below are pics showing minis for size comparison:

Please note I mainly used resources from dotcom (I found the textures Googling around and about and the papers scattered on the ground come from the THW yahoo Group files section (Damn, I really can’t find again the exact section where I took them).

I’m currently working on buildings same size/style (the new square roof is now better than the sample above!) but made with my own textures; when done I’ll be glad to share them here... on NNL!

Cheers,

Andrea

Snow on the planet... and fire in the sky!

Hi,

I recently thought to build up some terrain pcs and paint a bunch of 15mm miniatures for an Arctic inspired scenario.
I still have a dozen Critical Mass Light Recons and I'm planning to paint them with a winterized armor or a colour scheme that could fit...

Below is my first attempt, I think I used too much blu ink! Any advice's welcome!

By the way... the terrain pcs on the right is a work in progress bunker made from a 28mm blister, while the APC is just an old toy.
Clearly the first Arctic Light Recon is intended to be Rep 5 in a CR3 game!

Cheers,
Andrea

My souvenir from Greece

Hi all,

this small post just for fun and to say "I'm back"!
I've been with my patient gf in Karpathos, an extremely beautiful Greek Island... and now back home.
The island is quite small with just 4 gasoline stations (one with no gasoline at all, and the other 3 are all together in the middle of the island). Travelling around and about with a 50cc scooter -a crappy one, REALLY!!!!- me and Dani saw a lot of beautiful beaches.

From two of them come my souvenirs: two half-liter water bottles filled with fine/coarse sand... for miniature basing and terrains!

I promise to post very soon post more interesting pictures miniatures!!
P.s.: The pic above looks like Sitiako and Lyttos advertising.... ;)))

Cheers,
Andrea

New buildings in progress

Hi,

I was looking for some inexpensive raw material to build up new buildings for my next 15mm battles and I found this brick at the flower shop (!) for just 1,50 euro.
They put flowers in it (of course, that's what they sell...) but it looks great also for modelling as it can be easily cut with a knive.

So, I started making some tryouts...

Some little houses...

... and will update you if this material resists to the primer or just get melted!!!!

exploring the ruins

Hello,

another pic of some AF Light Recons looking for Sahadeens in the ruins of a gothic temple.
As they are not used to go to church, they asked an Exo Armor trooper with twin gatling guns to join them.
The exo trooper is -again!- an old 28mm figure; I can't remember the manufacturer, it might be something related with Starship Troopers but I really have no idea!

Cheers,
Andrea

Marsh battle -terrain tryout

Hello,

instead of posting pics of the finished terrains I was working on -there might be some more work in order to make all the cardboard edges invisible...-, as they're all just quick-and-easy and not incredibly detailed if taken alone (I saw amazing terrain pieces on the blogs I'm following!), I opted for posting pics of the tabletop I'm trying to compose for the game to come (I have a lot of Sahadeen waiting for some painting...).

Here's my Light Recon patrolling an abandoned marsh area, assisted by an exo-armor support (a GW 28mm Tau model). At the moment their work is useless... I'm sure they'll find no Sahadeen warriors to riot with ;) .
I would like to add more and more vegetation to the final display.

Below is a closeup of the Light Recon and Exo support taking control of the area.
Still no Sahadeens on sight!

Below a third photo showing the nice Tau model I used for Exo Armor trooper. I like its aspect a bit similar to Hiroki Endo's Eden exo armors (I can't find pictures on the web, you can refer to Wikipedia for more info about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden:_It%27s_an_Endless_World! ).
Some 28mm minis work very well with 15mm troopers!

If you have any comment/suggestion just let me know!
Cheers,

Andrea

"San Pietro" ;) -wip-

Hi,

here's a pic of a piece of WH40k scenery I have had for years... unpainted. I always thought it was too small for 28mm miniatures, but I think it looks great for 15mm.
So I decided to paint it.
Here's the base coat:

Shacks -wip-

Hi,

I'm slowly keeping on building and painting my terrain pcs for the game to come...
Here are some new pics, hope to finish these buildings quite soon!

The paint job is kind of quick-and-dirty but I like it enough,

cheers,
Andrea

I forgot to post this image with minis for comparison...

barricades -wip-

Hello,

here's some new stuff for the insurgents to come! It's just a very cheap die cast model with some "stuff" added, but I think it has a good post-apocalyptic feel after all...
